Wow! It’s already week four of my Countdown to Christmas- or is it week 5? I’m losing count already!

Today in my Live I made a diamond pop-up card. The images in the gorgeous Snowy Wonder stamp set and matching Snowy Scene DSP are perfect for this simple diamond pop-up card. However you can use any small images from a stamp set, or any DSP you have.

I’ve used my standard pop-up mechanism, which you can use for just about any pop-up card. But this time I’ve used diamond-shaped images which are simply squares turned on their point.

Choose your base cardstock to match your DSP and the images you want to use. I used Pool Party as my base cardstock as it matched the Snowy Scene DSP well.

The measurements and instructions are given below, or/and you can watch the YouTube video:

To make this diamond pop-up card you will need:

  • Pool Party base cardstock 21cm x 14.8cm scored at 10.5cm (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”)
  • DSP layer 10cm x 14.3cm (4” x 5¼”)
  • Pool Party pop-up mechanism 10.5cm x 11.5cm (4″ x 4½”)
  • Basic White insert 7.5cm x 14.3cm (3″ x 5¼”)
  • Pool Party cardstock squares: 1 x 7cm (2¾”) and 3 x 6cm (2½”)
  • Basic White Stitched Shape square die cuts: 1 x 2nd largest size, 3 x 3rd largest size
  • Garden Green twine
  • Scrap of Basic White for the sentiment
  • Gems to finish

Fold and burnish the base cardstock. This will be a landscape card. Adhere the DSP panel to the front of your card.

Score the Pool Party pop-up piece at 1″, 2″, 3″ and 4″. Fold each score line as a mountain fold. Stick the remaining flap to the first piece to form a square tube. Add glue or tear & tape to the first and fourth sides and stick carefully in the centre of your base card, making sure the diamond pop-up mechanism folds flat.

OPTIONAL: You could add strips of DSP to one or two of the showing sides of this mechanism if you want. These need to be 10cm x 2cm (3¾” x ¾”). You could also add a DSP piece above the mechanism on the inside of the front of the card – this needs to be the same size as your Basic White panel. I did this during the Live as you can see on the video.

Either stamp and colour four images, or fussy cut them from your DSP. Add these to the Basic White stylish shape squares*, remembering to place them on the diamond (not square). Stick each of these completed diamonds to the appropriate Pool Party piece.

*Alternatively, place the side diamonds on the front of the card before stamping or sticking down your fussy cut piece to make sure you get any image in the right place! (In the live, you can see I was not happy that my centre diamond covered up my lovely penguin. So as soon as the live ended, I cut out two more Basic White Stylish Shapes and some more trees. I slid the Basic White diamonds over my original side panel diamonds and then added some trees instead.)

Add two completed smaller diamonds to each side then add the large diamond in the centre using dimensionals.

Add tear & tape to the bottom inch of your remaining diamond. Stick this centrally to the pop-up mechanism (mark this with a pencil if you want), making sure it does not peek above the edge of the card when folded. You may need to cut the tip off the bottom of the outer diamond to make sure your diamond pop-up does not protrude out of the card when closed.

Stamp a sentiment for the inside on your piece of Basic White, then stick inside your card. It should fit perfectly below the pop-up.

Here is the completed diamond pop-up inside:

Stamp your main sentiment for the front and add to the card above the central diamond. Finish with a twine bow and some gems.

Your simple diamond pop-up card is now complete!

Don’t forget to decorate your envelope!

I made this card as a Christmas card but it would make a lovely birthday card or a card for any other occasion just by changing the stamp set, images, DSP and colour cardstock used.

I hope you like this card and will have a go at making one – please show me what you come up with.
