Oh my goodness, nearly halfway through my Christmas Countdown! This week, for week 5, I’m showing you how to make a gatefold card.

Gatefold cards are easy fun fold cards. They stand up beautifully on a mantelpiece but recipients will appreciate something different from the usual side opening card.

For this gatefold card, I used the Trees for Sale stamp set and the coordinating Tree Lot dies on a base of Garden Green, however, it is easy to adapt this card to any stamp set and to use any colour base card with any DSP you want.

Please see the video for how to assemble this card. Instructions are below.

Measurements

Cut a base card 21cm x 14.8cm. Score on the long side at 5.25 and 15.75cm. Fold and burnish.

From the coordinating colour DSP cut panels as follows:

  • one panel 14.3 x 10cm for the centre inner panel
  • two panels 14.3 x 4.8cm for the inner outside panels
  • two further panels 14.3 x 4.8cm for the front of the card

Cut two pieces of Basic White:

  • one 13.3 x 9cm for the centre inner panel
  • one 7 x 10cm for the front of the card

If you want to add a colour mat, this piece should be 7.6cm x 10.6cm

How to make the card

Adhere all the DSP panels to the base card

Stamp the larger piece of Basic White with your chosen inner sentiment and a tree in the corner as in the video. Adhere this panel to the central DSP-covered panel inside the card.

Stamp the smaller front piece with one central tree in Shaded Spruce and two trees in Old Olive, one on each side. Add the dog if you want, stamped in Soft Suede. Stamp your greeting in Soft Suede across the top of the panel. Adhere this panel to your colour mat if using.

I cut some trees with the outline tree dies and added them on top of the stamped trees.

I stuck two pieces of some old garden green retired ribbon to the front of the card. Just remember only to stick it on the left-hand panel only or the card will not open!

Stick your completed front panel to the left-hand side of the card ONLY. Add some rhinestones if desired.

And don’t forget to decorate your envelope!

Will you try this fun gatefold card? Let me know how you get on!
