Have you seen the gorgeous Shepherd’s Care stamp set? It is just perfect for scenic Christmas cards. In my live today I made two shepherd scene cards, one portrait and one gatefold landscape.

The measurements and instructions are below or (and) if you prefer you can watch the video.

Here is the portrait shepherd scene card in close-up.

To make the portrait card you need:

  • Night of Navy card base 21cm x 14.8cm scored at 10.5cm (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”)
  • Pebbled Path layer 10.1cm x 14.4cm (4 1/8” x 5 3/8”)
  • Very Vanilla layer 9.7cm x 14cm (4” x 5¼”)
  • Very Vanilla inside layer 9.5cm x 13.8cm (3¾” x 5”)
  • Very Vanilla piece approx 7cm x 11cm (3″ x 4½”) for shepherd
  • Scrap of Very Vanilla for sentiment
  • Night of Navy ink pad
  • Gray Granite ink pad (I decided Pebbled Path was too dark during the video!)
  • Basic White ink pad
  • Blending brush
  • Versamark and gold embossing powder

Fold and burnish the card base. Add the Pebbled Path layer to the front of the card.

Use the blending brush to add Night of Navy to the top third of the Very Vanilla front layer. Build up the colour slowly until you get the effect you want. Shape the bottom right slightly to allow for the town scene. Allow to dry thoroughly – use a heat tool if you need.

Stamp the Shepherd in Gray Granite on the piece of Very Vanilla. Colour using watercolour pencils and blend with a water painter or damp painting brush. Add some dabs of colour to the bottom of the front layer to give the impression of sandy desert.

Stamp the town scene in Gray Granite in the area on the right of the card just below the blending. Stamp the dotty stars in Basic White across the “sky”. Be careful – this ink takes ages to dry. Again, use your heat tool if you want.

Rub the top right front with your embossing buddy. Stamp the large star in the sky above the town using Versamark, add gold embossing powder and heat set. Stick the completed front to the card base.

Stamp your sentiment in Night of Navy to the Very Vanilla scrap and cut out. Add to your shepherd scene card using dimensionals.

Fussy cut the shepherd and add to the left hand side of the card using dimensionals to complete your shepherd scene.

Add a sentiment to the inside panel and adhere. Don’t forget to stamp your envelope!

Here’s the video of me making both cards:

Close-up of the gatefold landscape shepherd scene card:

For the gatefold landscape card you need:

  • Night of Navy card base 10.5cm x 29.6cm (11” x 4¼”)
  • Pebbled Path side panels x2: 10cm x 7cm (2 5/8″ x 4 1/8″)
  • Very Vanilla side panels x 2: 9.6cm x 6.6cm (2½” x 4″)
  • Pebbled Path inside layer 10cm x 14.3cm (4” x 5¼”)
  • Very Vanilla inside layer 9.5cm x 13.8cm (3¾” x 5”)
  • Other items as above for portrait card

Score the card base at 7.4cm (2¾”) on each side, fold inwards and burnish. Stick the Pebbled Path layers to your card base.

Stamp the top half of the shepherd on one Very Vanilla side panel. Stamp again onto a sticky note and cut out. Stick on top of your stamped shepherd. (During the video, a helpful suggestion was to stamp once onto a few layers of sticky notes, then cut out, giving you spare masks you can keep in your stamp case.)

Use the blending brush as before to add Night of Navy to each side panel.

Remove the sticky note leaving the shepherd’s head outlined in Night of Navy. Infill any gaps using a Stampin Write marker if necessary.

Colour your shepherd as you wish using watercolour pencils. Add details to the desert too if you wish.

Stamp the town on the right hand panel in Pebbled Path.

Add white dotty stars to both sets of “sky” and add a gold embossed star to the right-hand panel sky as described above.

Stamp your sentiment, cut out and add to a scrap of Night of Navy, so that the Very Vanilla doesn’t show when the shepherd scene card is opened. Stick the completed sentiment to the left hand panel of your card to overlap the right hand panel.

Stamp the inside greeting and your envelope and your gatefold landscape shepherd scene card is complete!
