I needed to make cards for my young great nieces who both have birthdays in the next few weeks, so I used the Hello Ladybug and Happy Hedgehogs stamp sets and coordinating punches to make two cute cards. I actually made a third, too, for my mum to give one child which you can see in the picture!

It can be difficult to make suitable cards, especially for young children. You can watch me make two cards in the video where I also give you tips about colouring and show you how to make a hidden surprise!

For the ladybug card I used:

  • Sweet Sorbet base 21cm x 14.8cm scored in half at 10.5cm.
  • Two pieces of Basic White 13.8cm x 9.5cm
  • Any green card scrap approx 6cm x 12cm for two leaves
  • Sweet Sorbet base 21cm x 14.8cm scored in half at 10.5cm.
  • Two pieces of Basic White 13.8cm x 9.5cm
  • Scraps of Basic White for stamping
  • Scraps of Basic Black and Sweet sorbet for punching two ladybugs
  • Gold foil for the number – or use a sticker (optional)

Punch out two ladybugs bodies from Basic Black and two sets of wings from Sweet Sorbet. Stamp the spots onto the wings using Memento ink. Stick the wings to your ladybug bodies.

Stamp two large leaves onto green cardstock and fussy cut them out. I tried Garden Green and Old Olive – use whatever you wish here!

Stamp your chosen sentiment on one piece of Basic White for the inside of the card then add the smiling ladybug in the bottom right-hand corner. Fill in the body using sweet sorbet ink as shown in the video. Stick to the inside of your card.

Place your leaves on the front piece of Basic White and use these to work out where to stamp your sentiment across the middle. Use your scoreboard to score across both leaves just above the stem. Stick the leaves down using glue just on that flap you have created. See the video if you are unsure.

Fold back the flaps to allow you to stick the ladybugs in place.

For the Hedgehog card I used:

  • Lemon Lime Twist base 21cm x 14.8cm scored in half at 10.5cm.
  • Two pieces of Basic White 13.8cm x 9.5cm
  • Scraps of Basic White for stamping
  • Gold foil for the number – or use a sticker (optional)

For the inside piece, stamp a small image (eg the bird or butterfly from the Happy Hedgehogs stamp set)  in the bottom right-hand corner and colour in using Stampin Blends. Add a chosen sentiment.

Stamp the tree and some grass onto the front piece of Basic White and colour in as shown in the picture. Add your sentiment,., I used the middle-sized one from the Go To Greetings stamp set. In the video, I show you how to stamp the words one above the other instead of side by side.

I tried a number of ways of making hedgehogs, which you can see in the video, but the following way was the best. Stamp two hedgehogs, one of each size, onto a scrap of basic White using Pecan Pie ink. Use an aqua painter to spread the ink across the prickles. Pick up some ink onto a spare stamping block and use the aqua painter to colour in the body as shown in the video.

Punch and cut out the hedgehogs and add to your card using dimensionals.

Don’t forget to decorate your envelopes!

I’m sure my great-nieces will love their cards. I also made a third which you can see in the picture. Ask me if you want the details for how to make that one.
