In today’s post I show you my first two ideas for using Designer Series Paper (DSP)  to make small gift bags. (Watch out for more DSP ideas soon!)

We have such gorgeous DSP from Stampin Up! – they can make lovely gift bags. In this post and video, I show you how to make two small gift bags, each using just one sheet of 6″x6″ Designer Series Paper. They are quick to make, too – you can make both in just twenty minutes.

These bags will fit small chocolate bars or other small gifts and can be customised as you wish. You need one sheet of 6×6″ DSP for each of these bags and your scoreboard. You can find full instructions below.

BAG 1

Score one side of your DSP at 1 1/2″ and 4 1/2″.

Turn through 90 degrees and score this second side at 2 1/2″ and 3 1/2″

Fold and burnish all score lines.

Fold one centre fold edge back to the side score line – see the video which explains this better! Repeat for all four centre fold edges.

I prefer to glue the top of each side piece to the centre as shown in the video, but you can leave the bag as it is.

Use a small clip or ribbon to close.

Decorate the front as you wish – I used some retired punches and sentiments and designs from the new Circle Sayings stamp set.

BAG 2

If using directional paper, place the bottom of the design to the left-hand side of your scoreboard. Score at 1 3/8″.

Turn your DSP clockwise through 90 degrees then score as follows:

  • score at 1 3/8″ just down to the first score line
  • score at 2 3/4″ and score down to the bottom
  • score at 4 1/8″ to the first score line
  • score at 5 1/2″ down to the bottom

Fold and burnish all full length score lines. Cut out the tiny bottom corner as shown in the video, then cut each of the remaining score lines up to the horizontal score line. Round the corner of the second tab along – see the video for details.

Add tape to the long side tab and stick the bag together.

Squeeze the bag sides to form the square base as shown in the video. Keeping the rounded tab until last, start with the tab opposite and stick all the tabs together, finishing with the rounded tab.

Punch a hole in the centre of the top of the bag and add ribbon to close.

Here’s the video for both bags:

I used some retired DSP to make my bags but the new Subtles DSP is perfect for them.
