My crafting ladies love using our beautiful packs of DSP – but they’ve ended up with lots of small scrap pieces. So they asked me for ideas for using these DSP scraps.
One huge benefit of our DSP packs is that the colours all coordinate so beautifully: which means you can mix and match your scraps of DSP however you want.
Watch the video and read on for five ideas for using DSP scraps. I used simple sentiments from the Go To Greetings stamp set embossed in white on black card stock and fussy cut before adding to the card with dimensionals.
You can also add embroidery embellishments such as ribbon or gems as you wish. Have a play!
IDEA 1: Cut small squares of DSP and add them randomly or regularly to your card front.
I prefer random, and I used 1 1/2″ squares on the card you can see in the picture.
You could also use 1″ squares spaced regularly – 12 will fit as a 4 x 3 pattern on a standard A5 card. I cut the square with my trimmer or you could use a die.
IDEA 2: Mix and match vertical strips of DSP randomly on your card front.
I like to trim the strips to different lengths and I think it looks best if the strip widths are different, but again, have a play and see which you prefer.
IDEA 3: Use strips of DSP laid horizontally on your card front rather than vertically.
IDEA 4: If you have bigger scraps of DSP why not use them as a strip down the side of your card front?
You can add further strips as you wish. Just watch out for directional patterns!
IDEA 5: Stick three vertical 3cm x 13,.8cm strips of DSP on a separate 10cm x 14.3cm piece of Basic White.
Run the completed front through your Cut’n’emboss machine using an embossing folder to add texture and interest.
This works best with strips of single colours or subtle patterns rather than busy patterns.
You can add an image on top as in the sample here.
Most of all, let your imagination run riot and just have a play!
We have such gorgeous sets of DSP from Stampin Up! They can be used to make such lovely cards and gifts – watch out for my next few posts which will show you how to make gift bags and other gifts using DSP.
