For my Christmas Countdown week 3, I’m making a U-card. I tried making one to fit our usual C6 envelopes, but it turned out far too small. So this card is larger, measuring when flat 17.5cm by 12.5cm (5″ x 7″) and it will fit flat in a 5″x 7″ envelope.

I’m using the gorgeous Night Divine bundle I have totally fallen in love with. The nativity dies cut so easily and you can trim them to fit the scene you want to create. The beautiful O Holy Night DSP provides the perfect background. In fact, I love this set so much I can’t stop making cards with it and I will soon have a pdf tutorial with all six of my Night Divine cards available in my website shop. One is a real WOW card – watch out for details soon!

To make this U-card you need:

  • Night of Navy cardstock 24.5cm x 12.5cm
  • O Holy Night DSP 22cm x 12cm
  • Night of Navy cross piece 17.5cm x approx. 6cm
  • Strip of coordinating DSP 17cm x approx 5.5cm
  • Basic White panel 10cm x 12cm
  • Basic Black scraps to die out the nativity figures
  • A 5″ x 7″ envelope

You can watch how to put the card together in the video below or read on for instructions.

  1. Score the base at 3.5cm and 7cm from each end. Fold and burnish as mountain then valley fold.
  2. Cut the DSP piece into 5, cutting two 3cm strips from each end leaving a 10cm piece in the centre. Keep these in order if using a scene!
  3. Stick the DSP pieces to your base card
  4. Stamp the Basic White piece with your chosen sentiment and add an additional stamped decoration if you wish. Stick this to the centre panel on the back of your base
  5. Trim the DSP to form sand hills then stick to the cross pice base. Trim any excess Night of Navy card above it.
  6. Attach the cross piece to the outer panel at both sides – see the video for how to do this.
  7. Add your die-cut nativity figures and any other embellishments you want.
  8. Don’t forget to decorate your envelope!

Here is how the card looks when standing up – it’s quite difficult to photograph!

I made a second card and added the stable die-cut across the centre as a change – but I’m not sure which I like best!
