I bought the gold open weave trim some time ago from a previous catalogue. It is so beautiful, but I have always struggled to find a way to use it for my cards. Last week I had a brainwave, so here are three tree-themed Christmas cards made using this gorgeous ribbon.
I’ve also used a retired Christmas stamp set and some retired speciality Christmas DSP for these tree cards, but you can substitute anything similar you have in your stash.
To make these cards you will need:
- Basic White card base 21cm x 14.8cm scored at 10.5cm (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”)
- Basic Black card 5.5cm x 14.8cm (2¼” x 5½”)
- DSP strip 5cm x 14.8cm (2″ x 5½”)
- Gold open weave trim
- Spotlight on Nature dies (or other circle dies approx 2½”)
- 2 3/8″ circle punch
- Pieces of Basic White and Basic Black for other decoration
- Gold foil (for card 2)
Tree card 1:

Fold and burnish the tree card base.
Glue the DSP strip to the Basic Black strip.
Add tear & tape to the top and bottom of this strip on the reverse side. Stick two lengths of Gold trim to the strip.
Adhere the completed strip centrally to the card front and trim the gold trim as required.
Die-cut a Spotlight on Nature circle from Basic Black cardstock. Punch a piece of DSP (or a piece of Basic White and stamp it) and attach this to the die-cut circle.
Attach to your card front as shown using dimensionals.
Add a Versa-marked stamped and gold-embossed tree to the centre of this piece with a dimensional.
Stamp your greeting in Memento to a scrap of Basic White and fussy cut. Add using dimensionals.
Finish your tree card with a gold twine bow (no, I have no idea how I made this one with three loops, sorry!).
Stamp a greeting inside your card and decorate with a tree stamp, stamping off the second image. (All three cards are decorated inside in this way.)

Tree card 2:

This card is made in a very similar way to card 1, but this time, add two pieces of tear & tape to the back ends of the Basic Black strip and wrap a length of gold trim around the strip. Stick to the card front.
Stamp your sentiment directly to the card front in Memento.
This time I cut the Spotlight on Nature die from gold foil. I stamped and punched out two trees for decoration and added these using dimensionals.
This tree card is stamped inside in the same way as card 1.
Tree card 3:

I made this card during our Craft’n’Chat class as a bonus third tree card!
For this card, I cut the DSP strip in half and stuck it behind the top and bottom of the Basic Black strip.
Then I wrapped the gold trim around the strip and secured it at each end with tear & tape.
I adhered it to the top of the card front and stamped the sentiment below.
The decoration for the front is made in the same way as for tree card 2, using Basic Black for the die-cut circle and one stamped tree on top as decoration.
Why not look out your retired Christmas stash and make some similar cards?
