T4S blog hop logo

Another month gone, August already! So it’s time for the next Tech 4 Stampers blog hop. The theme this month is Vellum.

There is so much you can do with vellum and you can check out the ideas from my brilliant fellow demonstrators by following the links at the bottom of this post.

I decided to use one of my favourite ways of using vellum, which is as a background for a focal element on a card. As you can see above, I’ve actually made two cards for this blog hop because I couldn’t decide which one I liked best!

The Old Olive card uses a Basic White card base 21cm x 14.8cm, scored in half at 10.5cm. The Old Olive layer is 10cm x 14.3cm.

The piece of vellum is 9.5cm x 12.5cm. I die-cut it using the second largest Stitched with Whimsy die then trimmed around the edge with scissors. You can’t see the stitched detail well, so you could just randomly curve the edge of the vellum piece of you don’t have those dies.

I then embossed the vellum using the Timeworn Type embossing folder, but you could use any randomly patterned embossing folder you have. I attached it to the card base using glue dots.

Please use glue dots rather than multipurpose glue as the latter will show behind the vellum.

I used the Layering Leaves stamp set to stamp the “Best Wishes” sentiment on a scrap of Basic White, die-cut it with the third largest Stylish Shapes circle die then attached it to the card using dimensionals.

I used the Bough punch to punch leaves and sprigs from Old Olive and Basic White and stuck these randomly behind the sentiment to finish the card.

Don’t forget to decorate your envelope!

I like to stamp my envelopes with an image that links to the card inside.

I used a leaf stamp from the set, inked with Old Olive, stamped once then stamped again without relinking. This is called the stamping-off technique if you see this phrase elsewhere.

For my second card, I used Pecan Pie as my card base, 21cm x 14.8cm, scored in half at 10.5cm. This time I used the second largest Scalloped Contour rectangle to die-cut a frame in Basic White. I then used my paper trimmer to cut out the centre leaving a 1cm border all around.

I embossed a piece of vellum 9.5cm x 6.5cm using the cross-hatched embossing folder from the Basics Embossing Folders set, available as an online exclusive and probably my favourite set of embossing folders ever! Once embossed, I stuck the vellum to the back of my frame then stuck it to the card base using glue only around the frame area.

This time I used the “For you” sentiment from the Layering Leaves stamp set added with dimensionals. I punched out leaves and sprigs on Crumb Cake and Pecan Pie. I also punched a couple of sprigs in vellum – can you see them?

I used a piece of Basic White 9.5cm x 13.5cm for the inside of the card and stamped it using stamps from the Layering Leaves set to finish the card.

There are so many other techniques you can use with vellum including colouring and heat embossing. See below for some other great ideas from my wonderful fellow T4S demonstrators.
