How time flies! It’s blog hop time again with my fellow T4S demonstrators.
The theme for this month is paper scraps. Now, I did do a series of ideas for using up your scraps of DSP earlier this year, so I had to think of something a bit different for this post.
A lot of our DSP is 6″ square, so I end up with quite a few scraps of strips from cutting card front layers. So in this post, I thought I’d show you how to use up these strips to make even more cards!
For this card, I used the Bright and Beautiful DSP from the annual catalogue that coordinates with the other products in the Bright and Beautiful suite (p14-15).
Here is my pack with all the various paper scraps. My paper scrap card idea will work with strips of different widths – they just need to be long enough to cover across the card layer.
To make the card you need:
- Basic White card base 21cm x 14.8cm scored in half at 10.5cm
- Coordinating colour cardstock layer 10cm x 14.3cm (I used Azure Afternoon)
- Basic White layer 9.5cm x 13.8cm
- Coordinating coloured paper scraps
- Embellishments as desired
Trim your paper scraps to a width you like then lay them diagonally across the Basic White layer until you are happy with the layout.
Use multipurpose liquid glue to stick the strips to your card layer. it will look very messy as shown in the picture – don’t worry!
The liquid glue allows you to move the strips around a little if necessary. You want them each to abut the next strip along so there are no gaps.
Once you are happy, allow the strips to dry for a short while then turn the card over to trim all the excess paper scraps from around the edge.
Then you simply stick this card layer onto your coordinating coloured card layer then stick to the front of your card base.
Decorate the card as you wish.
I used the Beautiful Balloons stamp set and dies to stamp Happy Birthday onto another paper scrap using Blueberry Bushel ink, then cut it out using the label die from the set.
I fixed this Happy Birthday label to the front of the card using dimensionals and used some Lemon Lolly ribbon from the Sheer ribbon Combo pack tied into a bow and attached with glue dots.
Stamp onto your envelope to decorate that too – I hate a naked envelope! Here I’ve used the medium-sized balloon stamp from the set in Lemon Lolly and Bubble Bath.
You can decorate the inside of the card in whatever way you wish.
I stamped a sentiment from the set in Blueberry Bushel and added three small balloons in Bubble Bath, Lemon Lolly and Lost Lagoon.
I drew the balloon strings using a fine tip black marker.
I also trimmed a piece of DSP to fit across the envelope flap as an extra decoration.
I hope you like this idea. Come back here in a couple of days, as I have another way to use paper scraps – this time with an accompanying video!
You can make so many different cards in so many different colours using paper scraps from your favourite packs of DSP. Have a go! But not before you have checked out all the other ideas for using paper scraps that my fellow demonstrators have come up with!
