This month the T4S blog hop theme is Masculine. This was a timely subject as I needed to make a birthday card for my brother-in-law for this week and I often find a masculine card difficult to make.

As soon as I saw the theme for this month I knew I wanted to use the gorgeous Woven Textures Designer Series Paper which just lends itself to make a masculine card.
Did you know that all our DSP has the colours contained in it listed on the back? From that list, I used Early Espresso and Crumb Cake for the two masculine cards (the second masculine card is shown in the video below). The stamp sets I used are Elements of Text (an online exclusive) and Layering Leaves, which is still available as a Last Chance product along with the matching Bough punch. I used the Countryside Corners dies to cut the shapes for the sentiment panel and its layer, these are also still available as Last Chance products.
To make this masculine card you will need:
- Basic White card base: 21cm x 14.8cm (8½” x 5½”)
- Early Espresso or Crumb Cake layer (x2): 10cm x 14.3cm (4” x 5¼”)
- Woven Textures DSP: 9.5cm x 13.8cm (3¾” x 5”)
- Basic White inside layer: 9.5cm x 13.8cm (3¾” x 5”)
- Early Espresso or Crumb Cake piece for die-cutting approx: 10.5cm x 6.5cm (4¼” x 2½”)
- Basic White for die-cutting approx: 9cm x 5cm (3¾” x 2″)
- Basic White scraps for the leaves decoration
- Natural Polka Dot trim approx 30cm (10″) length
Instructions
Score the main card base at 10.5cm (4¼”), fold and burnish well.
Stick the piece of DSP to one of the Early Espresso or Crumb Cake layers and add to the front of the card base.
Die cut the 3rd Countryside Corner die from the Early Espresso or Crumb Cake card piece.
Die cut the 4th Countryside Corner die from the Basic White card piece.
Use Crumb Cake (stamped off if using a Crumb Cake base) to stamp the circular Elements of Text stamp acrsoss the Basic White die cut piece.
Stamp your sentiment (I used Best Wishes from the Layering Leaves set) on top in Early Espresso.
Cut two lengths of your coordinating ribbon to approximately 13-14cm (5″) and cross them behind your completed Basic White sentiment panel using tear & tape so that they stick out both sides as in the picture below. I used the Natural polka dot ribbon.
For the card I made in my Live, I put the ribbon below the coloured layer then added it on dimensionals so it lay flat against the ribbon – see the video for details. I’m not sure which way I prefer it!

Use dimensionals to stick this completed panel to the die-cut Early Espresso or Crumb Cake panel. Add to the card front using multi-purpose glue.
Stamp three of the leaves from Layering Leaves in Crumb Cake on scraps of Basic White – I used a long strip of Basic White approx 5cm wide as it will reduce wastage when punching. Punch these out using the Bough punch.
Add to the front of your card around the sentiment panel.
For the inside of the card, I stamped the splodge stamp from Elements of Text in Crumb Cake in two opposite corners of the Basic White panel, then added a leaf in top stamped in Early Espresso.
I completed the panel by stamping a sentiment in Early Espresso, then stuck the completed panel to the second Early Espresso or Crumb Cake layer and adhering to the inside of the card base.

Don’t forget to decorate your envelope! I stamped the splodge from Elements of Text in Crumb Cake and added leaves on top in Early Espresso to match the inside of my card.
