How to make a squared quilt card

I’ve seen some pictures of these squared quilt cards on the demonstrator Facebook page, and I decided to make one myself once I’d worked out the metric measurements. Making a squared quilt card is easy once you have the measurements, but they will wow any recipient. I used the Painted Illusions DSP and the Fabulous Sayings and Prairie Grass stamp sets for my sentiments and decoration for this card.

Squared quilt cards are very useful, as they can be made for any occasion simply by swapping the DSP and sentiments used. I made this in my live Craftalong with Carol today using different coloured cardstock and different DSP.

To make the card you will need:

• Colour cardstock base: 21cm x 14.8cm scored at 10.5cm (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) 
• Basic White front layer: 10cm x 14.3cm (4” x 5¼”) 
• Colour cardstock square: 9cm x 9cm (3½” x 3½”)
• Two squares of DSP 7.5cm x 7.5cm (3″ x 3″)
• Sqaure of Basic White die cut using the middle Stylish Shapes die OR cut to 5cm x 5cm (2″ x 2″)
• Basic White layer for inside: 9.5cm x 13.8cm (3¾” x 5”) 
• Scrap of Basic White for your chosen sentiment
• Exposed Brick or any other embossing folder of your choice
• Ink pad the same colour as your cardstock
• Usual adhesives and paper trimmer

Here are the pieces I used in my live Craftalong: Balmy Blue cardstock and True Blue Florals DSP with the Beautiful Patterns embossing folder.

Fold and burnish the cardstock base.

Emboss the larger Basic White piece using the Exposed Brick embossing folder. Adhere to the card front.

Stick the colour cardstock square to the card front, making sure it is centred side to side.

Fold each square of DSP in half, lining up the edges carefully and burnish well.

Fold the top corner of DSP back to meet the halfway fold and burnish.

Adhere the now triangles of DSP to the square on card front, ensuring the overlap is the same at the top and bottom and that they join tightly in the centre as shown in the photo above.

Die-cut a middle sized Stylish Shapes square in Basic White.

Stick this inside the two DSP pieces in the centre as shown.

Stamp your sentiment on a scrap of Basic White and die-cut or punch out.

Fold the two small triangles over the Basic White square and add the sentiment on top using dimensionals.

Stamp your sentiment on the inside piece of Basic White, add some decoration if required and stick inside your card. I used the sentiment from Fabulous Sayings and decorated with a Prairie Grass stamp.

Don’t forget to decorate your envelope!
