How to make a easy panel Christmas card

Welcome to the first of my 12 weeks of Christmas posts for 2024! Each week I’ll be bringing you one or two Christmas projects – sign up to my emails NOW so you don’t miss anything!

In my free Craftalong this week we made a beautiful panel Christmas card. Panel cards are easy to make and are a great way to use up your scraps of DSP.

Here are several panel Christmas cards I’ve made:

I used some old Beary Cute DSP for two of the panel Chritmas cards shown above (and in the video), layered on Basic White and Silver foil. At the Craftalong I used the gorgeous Season of Green and Gold DSP – it will feature large in my cards this year – and you can see that card at the end of the video, showing how different these cards can look using different stamps and colours.

The background for the panel Christmas card is stamped, or you could use a piece of DSP if you prefer.

I suggest you choose which DSP you want to use, then choose which colour base would be best for yuour panel Christmas card. Then decide what colour foil to use. There is so much choice with Stampin’ Up! products.

To make a panel card you need:

• Card base: 10.5cm x 29.6cm (11” x 4¼”) – half an A4 sheet cut longways
• Piece of gold or silver foil: 11cm x 7cm (4¼” x 2¾”)
• Card layer: 10.5cm x 6.5cm (4″ x 2½”)
• Double sided DSP (or two coordinating pieces DSP): 10cm x 6cm (3¾” x 2¼”) – any directional pattern needs to be lengthways
• Scrap of card for sentiment
• Versamark ink
• Coordinating colour ink (to match your DSP)
• Gold or Silver embossing powder (and heat gun)
• Christmas greetings stamp set 
• Small image stamp set (to match your DSP)
• Paper trimmer
• Adhesives

Score your card base at 14.8cm (5½”), fold and burnish.

Ink your chosen background stamp and stamp randomly around the edge of the card front. (If you prefer to use DSP for the card front, it needs to be cut at 14.3cm x 10cm (5¼” x 4″) and adhered to your card front.)

Use the same design to stamp inside the card if you wish and add a stamped sentiment. Here is the inside of one of my cards:

Stick your foil panel to the centre front of your card. Adhere the card layer on top.

Cut your piece of DSP so that you have three pieces, two of 2.5cm wide and one of 5cm wide. See the video for cutting tips. Stick the two narrow strips at each end of the card layer, adding the wide strip in the centre.

Stamp your greeting on a scrap of cardstock in Versamark, emboss with a metallic embossing powder and heat set. Add your greeting to the card with dimensionals, placing it wherever it looks best.

Don’t forget to decorate your envelope!
