One of the background stamps in the new annual catalogue is a background stamp called Leaf Collection. (You can view the catalogue via the link opposite.) Now I don’t often use background stamps but this one is really versatile and I’ve seen many beautiful cards made with it.
(Please note – I used my stamperatus to make these cards. I am so sorry this is no longer available as it remains one of my go-to tools. If you don’t have one, then use sticky notes or mark your mat to show where to stamp, in order to make sure you stamp the second image directly over the first one. )
You will need:
- Basic White cardstock base 14.8cm x 21cm scored in half at 10.5cm (5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″)
- Old Olive cardstock layer 14.3cm x 10cm (5 1/4″ x 4″)
- Basic White layer 13.8cm x 9.5cm (5″ x 3 3/4″)
- Lemon Lime Twist ink pad
- Old Olive ink pad
- Small blending brushes
How to make the card is shown in the video below, or the instructions are written below as well.
To make the shaded background, first stamp the whole leaf collection stamp in Lemon Lime Twist to cover your Basic White layer. Clean your stamp.
Take a small blending brush and add Old Olive ink to it by rubbing small circular motions across the ink pad. Add Old Olive ink using the blending brush to some of the stems and parts of the leaves on the leaf Collection stamp then re-stamp on the cardstock over your first image. Repeat as necessary until you are happy with the effect.
I also stamped the Leaf Collection stamp on another piece of cardstock in Old Olive, which I then used to fussy cut leaves to add behind my sentiment. Or use leaf dies from any other set you have.
You can use a sentiment from any other stamp set you have, but I made my own set of sentiments using the Thoughtful Moments hybrid embossing folder. First I stamped the raised edge side of the embossing folder with Memento ink.
I fixed the die around the words – it clicks into place so you know when you have it correctly aligned. I then ran it through my Cut’n’Emboss machine which cuts out all the sentiments – I keep the ones I don’t use in a small bag so I always have some to hand.
To finish the cards, I added my sentiment using dimensionals then stuck some fussy-cut Leaf Collection leaves around it. I also added some gems to one card though I’m not sure it needed it – what do you think?
In my Zoom Craftalong yesterday, I showed a second technique for inking this Leaf Collection stamp to make a three-colour striped card – the card I made is shown below. It doesn’t need a stamperatus! The additional leaves are die-cut using various dies I had.
Do you think differently about background stamps now? I hope you have a go at these fun techniques. Please let me see any cards you make.
