Basic cards are fun to make using a basic cardstock base with a layer of DSP and some simple stamped or die-cut images as in the card below. But it is easy to jazz up a card simply by adding layers and embellishments to a basic layout and that’s what I focused on today in my Craft with Carol Live – join me every Tuesday at 2pm on YouTube or my craftycarolscards Facebook page. (Sign up for my emails too so you’ll know when I take a break or have to change the live for any reason!)

I explained how to make a simple card (picture below) with just a layer of 14.3cm x 10cm (4” x 5 ¼”) Unbounded Beauty DSP on a Basic White cardstock base. I added a leaf die-cut using the Thoughtful Wishes dies and finished the card by adding a sentiment for the same stamp set stamped min Pretty in Pink to match the DSP. I die-cut it out using a die from the Unbounded Love dies.

I finished this card by stamping the “You make life better” Thoughtful Wishes sentiment inside and adding the

At my Live, I showed how to jazz up this card as you can see in the main picture by first adding a layer of plain cardstock behind the DSP layer. The cardstock measures 14.3cm x 10cm (4” x 5 ¼”) and the DSP layer 13.8cm x 9.5cm (3 ¾” x 5”).

I wrapped a layer of Pretty in Pink ribbon around the two layers before sticking them to my card base then tied a bow separately, adding it using a glue dot or two.

For this card, I die-cut fronds for Thoughtful Wishes and leaves from the Unbounded Love dies, glueing them onto the card front using dots of multipurpose glue.

I stamped a sentiment from Unbounded Love in Pretty in Pink onto a scrap of basic White and die-cut it using an Unbounded Love die, adding it above the fronds and leaves using dimensionals.

To finish jazzing up the card, I added a few Pretty in Pink shimmer gems. You can see the whole process in the video below.

I finished the inside of the card and stamped the envelope in the same way as for the first card, by stamping a sentiment and images in Pretty in Pink.

What do you think? Which card do you like the best? The simple card or the jazzed up card?

I hope you like this card and will have a go at making one – please show me what you come up with.
