In this week’s Craft with Carol Live I used the gorgeous Hearts & Hugs stamp set to make four simple hug cards. I gave them a WOW factor by adding some simple doodle outlines. Sometimes simple is good! #simplestamping

For the base cards I used the small cards and envelopes from the Assorted Memories and More Cards & envelopes. The envelopes are C7 size. If you don’t have these cards & envelopes, then the card measurements are as follows:

  • Base card 16.5cm x 10.7cm (6 1/2″ x 4 1/4″) scored in half at 8.25cm (3 1/4″)
  • Layer (if using) 7.5cm x 10cm (3″ x 4″)

All the cards were made during my Live which you can watch below or on my YouTube channel.

For my first hug card I stamped the hamster in Memento ink directly onto the base card then added the “Thanks” sentiment.

I coloured the hamster – I used my Copper Clay Stampin Blends for this one but he is a little too bright for my liking! Choose your own colours.

I finished off the hug card by adding dots in each corner then drawing a wavy line between them.

Don’t worry about drawing perfect lines – just doodle as you wish.

For hug card 2 I used a Basic White layer. I stamped the hamster just under half way down the layer and coloured it using Pecan Pie Blends.

Then I used the curved hearts die to die-cut hearts above the image.

I then stuck this layer onto a scrap of Poppy Parade cardstock which needs to be around 7cm wide and 4 cm deep minimum, so that the colour showed through the hearts. Then I added this completed piece to the card front.

I stamped the sentiment on a scrap of card and cut it out, adding it underneath the image using dimensionals.

I finished the hug card by using a mix of doodled dots and lines around the edge.

Hug card 3 uses the badger couple from the set. I stamped them onto a layer using Memento then coloured them using Pecan Pie blends.

I made the taller badger darker by using two layers of colour using the Light Pecan Pie, then added highlights using the Dark Pecan Pie Blend. Their stripes are coloured in Crumb Cake.

I stamped the sentiment at the top right using Memento.

To finish the hug card I used my bone folder as a ruler to draw dashed lines around the edge as I cannot draw a straight line freehand to save my life!

My final hug card used the hamster again, stamped directly onto the front of the card using Memento and coloured using Pecan Pie blends (though I forgot his nose as you can see! That is now rectified.)

I stamped the sentiment on a scrap of Basic White then to show him “holding” it I drew two small hands above the words and coloured them with my Blends. Work out where to draw the hands by placing the sentiment across the stamped image,

I wiped the edges of the sentiment across my Memento ink pad to give it a thin outline of black and added it to the card using dimensionals. (You can see my disaster on the video where I dropped the first sentiment onto my ink pad and had to make a second one…..)

I also got a spot of black ink on my card front – so I covered it with a heart coloured in Copper Clay.

I finished the card by doodling an outline using curvy lines and dots.

Live video eh! At least it’s real crafting! I hope you like my simple hug cards.

Why not join me on Tuesdays at 2pm on Facebook or YouTube for what will inevitably be more disasters….!
