In this video I show you how to make a gift box for the Hippest Hippo set of cards I made recently. The key with making a gift box is to make the lid just slightly larger than the base. I’m not sure I explain it well enough in the video: you need to add around 1.5 mm each side.

So, if your basic base measurement is as here, 11.5cm x 16.5 cm, first add on the amount needed for the sides.  In this case I wanted a 1cm lip, so I added 2 cm each side to allow for a folded down edge, which makes the gift box stronger. Therefore the measurements become 15.5 x 20.5cm.

When you score, instead of scoring at 1cm and 2cm each side, score at 0.9 and 1.9cm. That gives just enough room to make the lid slightly bigger than the gift box and it will fit well – as long as all your corners are straight of course!

A final note: If you use the Stampin Up! scoreboard, then the easy way to make a box lid fit is to bring your card in from the left hand edge just a smidge before scoring to give the same outcome.

Have a play and let me know how you get on.
