This unusual hexagonal box fits the small pillar candles available from Tesco or other retailers. The star name comes from the pattern formed at the top when it is put together.
Thanks to my upline, Gillian Duffin, who first created this star box – I re-sized it to fit my candles. You could of course fill it with sweets or any other small gift. It’s a lot easier to make than it looks.

Instructions
Use a heavy DSP such as our speciality papers, or cardstock. Cut your to 9 1/2″ x 7 1/2″. If your DSP has a directional pattern, cut it so that the top of the pattern is along the 9 1/2″ edge.
Score the long side at 1 1/2″, 3″, 4 1/2″, 6″, 7 1/2″ and 9″.
Score the short side at 1 1/2″, 5″ and 6 1/4″. The top of any directional pattern should be to the right hand side.
Cut along the vertical score lines from the bottom of the long side of the piece until you meet the first horizontal score line. This forms the bottom of the box. Cut out and discard the small 1/2″ piece at the side.
Burnish all score lines.
To cut the holes around the neck of the box, fold each vertical score line back each time. Either use the envelope punch board if you have one, or you can cut a triangle out approximately 1/2″ deep on each fold around the star box neck.
To use the envelope punch board, fold each score line back in turn and place into the board with the top of the star box to the left. Line up with the 1 1/4′ mark and punch. Do this for each score line around the neck of the star box.
Your DSP or cardstock should now look like this:
Add tear’n’tape to the right hand side tab to seal the star box side together.
Form the star box bottom by folding across each tab and sticking them together using some multipurpose liquid glue, ending with one of the two front tabs. Take care to line these up so they remain exactly facing the fold on the opposite side of the base to ensure the box is truly hexagonal. Use your bone folder or the candle to press down inside to make sure the tabs are well stuck down.
Insert your candle or gift.
Cut a tag from Basic White card using the Tailor Made Tags dies. Stamp your sentiment in a coordinating ink. Emboss it if you wish, add around 6″ of twine or thin ribbon and tie the ends together.
Take a piece of ribbon approximately 20″ long. Slide it through your tag then wrap it around the neck of the star box. Start to pull it together then use your fingers to help form the points of the stars. Tighten and tie the ribbon in a bow.
