We had great fun in the free Craftalong yesterday, making a fun fold card with an optional gift holder that can be used for a tag, money or a gift card. The gift holder is optional. If you do not want to use it, simply add the card B panel and DSP as decoration on your surprise fun fold piece.

I first saw this card made in inches, so I have adapted it to use centimetres for those who prefer it (like me and my BFF)! Both sets of measurements are given below together with detailed instructions, and/or you can watch the video.

I made two fun fold gift holder cards, the Craftalong one using the Snowy Wonder stamp set with the greeting from Peaceful Seasons, the second using the gorgeous Sentimental Christmas DSP. All products used are listed at the end of this post.

Here is the fun fold gift holder card opened out so you can see all the layers and panels:

To make this fun fold gift holder card, you will need:

  • Cardstock A base: 10.5cm x 29.6cm scored at 14.8cm (11″ x 4 1/8″).
  • Cardstock A front panel: 10.5cm x 14.8cm (5½” x 4 1/8″)
  • Front cardstock B layer: 10cm x 14.3cm (5″ x 3¾”)
  • Front DSP layer: 9.5cm x 13.8cm (4½” x 3¼ “)
  • Inside fun fold piece: 13cm x 8cm (5″ x 3″)
  • Greeting panel cardstock B layer: 10cm x 8cm (3¾” x 3″)
  • Greeting panel Basic White layer: 9.5cm x 7.5cm (3¼” x 2 ½”)
  • Gift holder (Optional): Cardstock A:  9cm x 6.5cm (3″ x 2½”)
  • Gift holder layer 1 Cardstock B: 8.5cm x 6cm (2½” x 2″)
  • Gift holder DSP layer: 8cm x 5.5cm (2″ x 1½”) – or use a stamped image panel
  • Basic White and cardstock A scraps for the front sentiment

Score the card base on the long side at 12.8cm, 14.8cm, 16.8cm and 22.5cm (4 ½“, 5 ½”, 6 ½”, and 8 ½’). Fold as valley, mountain, valley and valley and burnish. Add glue between the first and second scorelines and stick the book-fold edge together. This provides some stability for the card when it is standing up.

Add glue to the outside of the front turned back piece and adhere the front panel (cardstock A) to your card, making sure to line it up carefully with the card base underneath.

Stick the front cardstock layer B onto the front panel, Then add the front DSP layer. Decorate the front as you wish – I used fussy cut elements from my DSP to decorate the front for the stocking and snowmen card.

Stamp your sentiment in either Memento, your base colour or your contrasting colour and add a small coloured cardstock border. Add to your card front.

Score the inside fun fold gift holder piece on the long side at 10cm and 11.5cm (3½” and 4”). Fold both creases as mountain and burnish. Add tape to the back of the outside tab and stick it onto the back of your card base, lining it up carefully with the side edge and bottom of the card back. It will push inwards flat when the card is closed.

To decorate the flap, either use DSP or stamp an image on a Basic White panel. I used DSP plus a fussy cut image for the snowman card and a DSP panel for the stocking card.

Adhere the DSP (or stamped image panel) to the card B layer. To decorate the flap panel without making the gift holder, stick these to the right-hand side of the flap panel. For the optional gift holder, stick the completed panel B to the card A layer. Add tear & tape ONLY to the outside back and bottom of this piece then stick to the inside fun fold piece, lining it up with the outside edge. This leaves the top open for you to insert your gift.

Stamp a greeting (and decoration if you want) on the Basic White greeting panel layer (as portrait) then adhere to the greeting panel cardstock B layer. Stick this conpleted greeting panel centrally onto the back of your card midway between the book fold and fun fold piece edge.

Finish your card with ribbon or gems if you wish. Don’t forget to decorate your envelope!
