I last used this faux metal technique aeons ago so it was about time I revived it! This card uses layers of embossing powder to create the faux metal look for the vase on the panel on the front of the card. I have used copper embossing powder for this faux metal card but you can use any colour of metallic embossing powder to suit what you want to make.

I made this card using a landscape base in Copper Clay, one of the gorgeous 2023-2025 In Colors,  and the Designer Series Papers are from the Earthen Elegance suite, which I have rather fallen in love with. The vase is from the Earthen Textures stamp set and no, the technique does not damage your stamp in any way, in case you were worried!

To make the card you will need:

  • Copper Clay base card 10.5cm x 29.6cm scored in half at 14.8cm
  • DSP front layer 14.3cm x 10cm
  • Larger panel: Copper Clay card 9cm x 7.5cm
  • Larger panel: DSP 8.5cm x 7cm
  • Faux metal background Copper Clay card 7cm x 5.5cm
  • Piece of thick card (any colour!) 6.5cm x 5cm
  • Sentiment Copper Clay layer 6.5cm x 2.5cm
  • Sentiment Vary Vanilla piece 6cm x 2cm
  • 16cm length of Natural Wavy Trim
  • Very Vanilla inside panel 13.8cm x 9.5cm

Here’s the video of how to make the card, but if you want the instructions you can find them below:

Wrap the length of Wavy Trim around the DSP front layer and secure at the back using tape. Stick this piece of DSP to the front of the base card.  Stick the smaller piece of DSP to the larger panel card, add glue and slide it behind the wavy trim to stick down as shown.

Rub the small piece of Very Vanilla with your embossing buddy then stamp and emboss your sentiment in copper embossing powder. Stick to the Copper Clay layer and fix to the upper left-hand corner of the card using dimensionals.

To make the faux metal piece, cover the piece of thick card with Versamark and add copper embossing powder. Use your heat gun to melt it. Be careful to use a tool to hold the card – don’t burn your fingers! Allow the card to cool then reapply the Versamark and embossing powder. Repeat once or twice more for three or four layers of embossing powder.

When you are happy the embossed layer is good and deep, heat your panel once more then stamp your image into the warm embossed panel. Hold for a second or two then lift your stamp. There will probably be no residue on it and it will wipe clean. This technique does not damage your stamp.

Allow the panel to cool completely then stick it to your card layer before adding it to your card front using dimensionals.

Stamp the inner Very Vanilla card as desired and adhere inside your card. Don’t forget to decorate your envelope!
