In today’s blog and video I show you how to make some quick and easy easel cards both in portrait and landscape formats. I used the gorgeous Sketched Butterflies bundle of stamp set and dies to decorate the cards, coloured using Stampin blends. I added bling with Wink of Stella and some gems too.
Some easel cards advise using a raised “stop” on the base, but I don’t think they need a “stop” necessarily. In the video and the pictures I show the landscape easel card with a “stop” and the portrait easel card without one – it’s your choice to use one or not!
Here’s the “stop” on the landscape card:
For the PORTRAIT card you need:
- Berry Burst Card base 21cm x 14.8cm (8½” x 5½”)
- Gray Granite piece 10.5cm x 6cm (4¼” x 2½”)
- Basic White inside layer 9.5cm x 13.8cm (3¾” x 5”)
- Approx 1/4 sheet of Basic White cardstock for stamping the Sketched Butterflies
- Scraps of Gray Granite and Basic White for the sentiment
- Gray Granite and Memento ink pads
- Stampin Blends (I used Bubble Bath, Pool Party and Fresh Freesia)
- Gems and Wink of Stella for decoration
Score the card base at 5.25cm and 10.5cm (2¾” and 4¼”). Fold and burnish each crease well.
Add glue to the lower half of the Gray Granite piece only and stick to the lower half of the card front, so that the piece lies in the centre of the card. See the video below if you are not sure.
Stamp the large, small and side-on Sketched Butterflies in Gray Granite on Basic White cardstock. Die cut using the dies. Note: use the tiny holes in the top of the dies to line up the die with the stamped antennae.
Stamp the group of small butterflies on the Basic White inner layer using Gray Granite ink. Add a sentiment if you wish.
Colour all the butterflies using Stampin Blends. Add Wink of Stella and allow to dry.
Stick the completed inner layer inside the card.
Stamp the sentiment on a scrap of Basic White in Memento ink and layer onto a scrap of Gray Granite to give a border. Add to the easel card front using dimensionals.
Add the butterflies using dimensionals, allowing the wings to overlap the Gray Granite piece.
Finish the card with some gems.
For the LANDSCAPE card you need:
- Berry Burst Card base 10.5cm x 29.6cm (11” x 4¼”)
- Gray Granite piece 14.8cm x 4cm (5½” x 1½”)
- Basic White inside layer 13.8cm x 9.5cm (5” x 3¾”)
- Approx 1/4 sheet of Basic White cardstock for stamping the Sketched Butterflies
- Scraps of Gray Granite and Basic White for the sentiment
- Gray Granite and Memento ink pads
- Stampin Blends (I used Bubble Bath, Pool Party and Fresh Freesia)
- Gems and Wink of Stella for decoration
Score the card base at 7.4cm and 14.8cm (2¾” and 5½”). Fold and burnish each crease well.
Add glue to the lower half of the Gray Granite piece only and stick to the lower half of the card front, so that the piece lies in the centre of the card. See the video below if you are not sure.
Stamp and colour the inside layer as before and stick to the inside of your easel card. I did not add a sentiment to this card as I made it a thank you card.
Stamp the large, medium and small butterflies in Gray Granite and colour using the blends. Die cut lining up the antennae as described above. Add Wink of Stella.
Stamp the sentiment on a scrap of Basic White in Memento ink and layer onto a scrap of Gray Granite to give a border. Either stick the completed sentiment flat on the bottom inside the card as shown in the picture to act as the “stop”, or add to your easel card front using dimensionals. Your choice!
Add the butterflies to the card front using dimensionals. FInish with gems.
Don’t forget to decorate your envelopes. I used the medium butterfly and coloured it in the same way as for the butterflies I used on the easel cards.
