Make a simple aperture card

This simple aperture card can be adapted for any occasion using any set of nesting dies, any DSP and any small/medium image stamp set you may have. I’ve used the June Product of the Month, Wild Bunch (which has sadly now sold out), and the Scalloped Bloom dies together with the gorgeous Bloom Boutique DSP for this card.

Watch the video to see how simple an aperture card is to make! I added a frame and an inside frame for my image, but these are entirely optional. Any nesting dies can be used to make an aperture card, circles, scallops, arches, squares or diamonds – try some and see which you prefer.

To make this card you need:

• A stamp set with a medium-sized image (I used Wild Bunch)
• Set of nesting dies (I used Scalloped Blooms)
• Coloured card base 21cm x 14.8cm scored at 10.5cm (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”)
• Designer Series paper with a random small pattern of any type or colour to coordinate with your cardstock approx 14.3cm x 10cm (4” x 5¼”)
• Basic White card 9.5cm x 13.8cm (3¾” x 5”) 
• Colour cardstock to die-cut your scallop circles (or other circles) (approx 10cm / 4″ in size)
• Scraps of Basic White for stamping and sentiment
• Sentiments of your choice
• Coordinating gems or ribbon (optional)
• Your favourite adhesives including dimensionals

Fold and burnish your card base.

Stick the DSP to your card base being careful not to add glue where your aperture will be cut – add glue around the edge and across the bottom only.

Using some tape to hold your die in place, cut your aperture. I used the fourth scalloped bloom die. Separate the DSP and cardstock to use for other projects. (OPTIONAL: I used the middle Stylish Shapes circle to cut out the centre of this die-cut scallop piece to give me a frame for the inside of the card. )

Using the die with which you cut the aperture and the next largest die, die-cut a frame from your scrap piece of coloured cardstock.

Adhere this around your aperture.

Stamp your image onto a scrap of Basic White, colour and fussy cut.

Stamp whatever decoration you want onto the Basic White piece for inside your card – I used the scribbly blocks from the Wild Bunch stamp set stamped in Crisp Cantaloupe. Adhere this piece inside your card.

Close your card. Adhere the inside frame (if using) by placing it into the aperture. Add your image using dimensionals.

Stamp any additional sentiment inside your card wherever it fits!

Stamp your sentiment in an ink to match your cardstock – I used Peaceful Pine. Flag the ends and add to your card front using dimensionals.

Add some gems or ribbon if you wish – I decided this DSP was busy enough without anything more.

Don’t forget to decorate your envelope! I used the scribbly blocks again.
