I made everyone a hanging gift box for an Easter gift and also made them for our team get-together today. I was going to put this tutorial up before Easter but I didn’t want my fellow team members to see them before the meeting!

It is a simple box to make and the lid fits snugly so you can hang it up – you may want to bookmark this project for next Christmas. The box fits a Lindt or Creme egg, or a Kinder surprise, or any other similar sized gift.

Instructions are given below and the video is at the end of this post.

To make this hanging gift box you need:

  • Basic White card base 21cm x 7cm (8¼“ x 2½“)
  • Basic White card insert 8.8cm x 8.8cm (3 3/8” x 3 3/8“)
  • DSP x 2: 12cm x 12cm (5” x 5”)
  • Short length of twine for hanging

To make the hanging gift box base, score on the long side at 5cm, 10cm, 15cm and 20cm (2″, 4″, 6″, and 8″) Fold and burnish.

Trim the tab at each end as shown, then add tear & tape, folding over the other end to form the box.

To make the insert, first find the middle by making small pencil marks. Use a small circle die to cut out a hole in the centre.

Score this insert at 2cm (3/4“) on each side. Trim by cutting a V shape to each corner as shown above. Fold the tabs over and insert into the base.

Score each piece of DSP at 3.5cm (1½“) on all four sides. (I used Easter Joy DSP for the team boxes)

Create a tab at each end on each side as shown in the picture above and on the video.

Add tape to each tab and carefully stick each corner, ensuring they are square.

Use your snips to create a V shape on each side – I found that my Stampin’ Snips blades were the perfect length for this!

Add one completed piece as the base for the box, sliding it on carefully. It is a snug fit.

Add your decoration – I used a stamped, coloured and cut-out chicken from a retired stamp set, but you can use any image you want. You could also add a sentiment.

For the lid, pierce a hole in the centre. Tie a knot at the end of the piece of twine and poke it through the hole. Stick the knot end down under the lid with some clear tape.

Add your egg or other gift, then add the top and your hanging gift box is complete.
