Love card and box

Valentine’s Day may be over, but a card that says I love you and a matching heart-covered box for a small gift are always useful for anniversaries, weddings, and just because.

I made this love card and matching box for a free craft event I was asked to run in my local library. All the instructions for both are given below. The box given uses 6″ square pieces of card and DSP, but you can make the box in different sizes just by using different size squares of card and DSP.

I used the Endless Love bundle and Made with Love DSP with the Hearts of Love embossing folder, but any similar stamp set, DSP and embossing folder can be used. I also used punches for the library class, so if you have some heart punches, use those. My coloured card and ribbon was Strawberry Slush.

Love card

To make the love card you need:

• Basic White card base 21cm x 14.8cm scored at 10.5cm (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”)
• DSP piece 5cm x 14.3cm (2” x 5¼”)
• Basic White card piece 5cm x 14.3cm (2” x 5¼”)
• Scraps of card for decoration and sentiment
• Matching ribbon for decoration

Fold and burnish the card base.

Emboss the Basic White piece using the embossing folder.

Adhere the DSP and the embossed pieces to the front of your card with the DSP next to the fold.

Stamp the sentiment in a matching colour ink onto a Basic White scrap. Trim by cutting the ends diagonally as in the picture below.

Die0cut or punch a heart from coloured cardstock, then die-cut or punch a larger heart (I used a scalloped heart punch) in Basic White.

Stock the coloured heart onto the Basic White heart and add to the upper centre of the card using dimensionals.

Add a length of ribbon to stretch behind the sentiment. Adhere to the card using tear & tape

Then add the sentiment on top using dimensionals.

Decorate the inside of the love card as you want, depending on what the occasion will be! Here is mine:

Gift box

You will need:

• One 6″ square of coloured cardstock
• One 6″ square of patterned DSP
• Scraps of cardstock and ribbon to decorate

Score each side of the cardstock at 1″

Score each side of the DSP at a fraction under 1″

Trim each corner tab as shown on both squares.

Add glue to the outside of each tab in turn and carefully glue each corner together, making sure the corner is square.

Make up the lid in the same way. use a 1″ circle punch to add thumb holes on two opposite sides of the lid.

Your box will fit together easily.

Punch or die-cut a coloured heart, then a larger basic White heart (I embossed mine), Stick the coloured heart onto the Basic White heart using dimensionals then adhere both and to the box lid.

Add a ribbon bow on top to finish.

Here are two boxes, one made with 6″ square pieces, and the smaller one using 5″ square pieces. Try making different sizes yourself!
