For my Craft with Carol LIVE today I decided to make a spotlight card using the gorgeous new bundle called Spotlight on Nature – it was the name that gave me the idea! The bundle has a gorgeous stamp set and the dies are a set of 12 circles with three different decorations, so four of each style in four different sizes. They will be available to buy from 1st May in the new annual catalogue. Or become a demonstrator and get the new products early, plus a discount!
A spotlight card uses a monochrome background and highlights, usually in colour, a particular focus or part of an image as a “spotlight” to act as a focal point on the card. For this card, I used Grey Granite as my base card and Basic White for the layers on the front and inside the card.
You need:
- Grey Granite cardsotck 21cm x 14.8cm scored in half and folded at 10.5cm (8 ½” x 5 ½”, scored at 4 ¼” )
- Basic White front layer 10cm x 14.3cm (4” x 5 ¼”)
- Basic White inside layer 9.5cm x 13.8cm (3 3/4″ x 5″)
- Scrap of Basic White and Grey Granite for the sentiment plus Basic White approx 4.5cm square (1 3/4″) for the spotlight circle
- Grey Granite ribbon for decoration
- Grey Granite ink pad and your choice of Stampin blends for colouring
To make the card, stamp your main image in Grey Granite on the Basic White front layer. I added the hatched stamp around it as well. Stick this completed piece to your card front. Stamp part of the flower head to your inside layer and stick that to your card as well. I also used the image on my envelope – never forget to decorate your envelopes!
Choose one of the smaller (2nd size) dies and cut out that circle in Basic White. Stamp the area you want to spotlight, in this case the flower head, in Memento ink onto that circle. Colour with your choice of Stampin blends. I used Bubble Bath and Granny Apple Green. Carefully stick this piece to your card using dimensionals, making sure to line up the image exactly.
Stamp your chosen sentiment onto a scrap of Basic White. Banner one end, then stick to the scrap of Grey Granite. Trim to leave a small border around the sentiment. Stick to the upper right part of your card front as shown in the picture.
After I finished the video I felt the card needed something else so I added a strip of Gray Granite ribbon and a bow at the bottom of the card.
If you like this bundle, add it to your wish list for 1st May! If you can’t wait, any large image stamp set and circle dies can be used to make a spotlight card like this.
