Today in my live session on YouTube and Facebook I talked about using different template shapes and using them to try out different card layouts. If I’m struggling for inspiration I can try these out on a card to see what they look like matched with the colour combo or DSP I want to use. Below is a selection of my cut or punched template shapes:

I wanted to use the Countryside Corners bundle and the beautiful Countryside Inn DSP. I used Misty Moonlight for the card bases and teemed these up with different sheets of the DSP to make three very different cards. All three cards use the usual base of 21cm x 14.8cm scored in half at 10.5cm (8 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored at 4 1/4”).

Card 1: Three panel Thinking of You

For this card, I stuck a DSP panel 10.5cm x 5cm (4 1/4″ x 2″) across the bottom third of the card. I added a vertical DSP panel 12.5cm x 5cm (5″ x 2″) laid onto a Night of Navy mat 0.5cm (1/4″) bigger each way.

I stamped the Countryside Corners stamp in Night of Navy onto Basic White and used the dies to cut out the outer octagon and the inner octagon. (I kept the other piece to use on another of the cards.) I used the Go to Greetings stamp set to stamp Thinking of You I the centre of the small octagon and stuck that to the front of the card using dimensionals.

I cut out another large octagon in Basic White then stuck the outer octagon to this piece and used it for the inside of the card.

I completed the card by using some tiny punched-out flowers using a retired punch with some pearls in the centres.

Card 2: Happy Birthday

For the second card, I used the remainder of the stamped Countryside Corner image as a frame. I adhered a piece of DSP 14.3cm x 10cm (5 1/4″ x 4″) to the front of the card in landscape format. I stuck a piece of Basic White of the same size inside the card.

I stamped Happy Birthday to a scrap of Basic White and stuck it to the centre of the front of the card. I added the Countryside Corner frame using dimensionals. I finished this card using some punched-out sprigs and flowers to the left and right of the frame, again using pearls in the centre of the flowers.

Card 3: Think of You cut out card

For my third card, I again made it a landscape card and added a piece of DSP 14.3cm x 10cm (5 1/4″ x 4″) to the front and the same-sized piece of Basic White to the inside.

I used the 2 3/8″ circle punch to punch out an image from one of the sheets of DSP then used a retired layering circle die to cut out a fluted circle from the left hand side of the front. (You could use the punch again if you don’t have a suitable die.) I used this as a template to work out where to stick the punch out image to the inside of the card – see the video for details.

I die cut the second smallest octagon from a stamped Countryside Corner image and stamped thinking of You to the inner octagon. I layered this onto a scrap of Night of Navy 7.5cm x 3.5cm (3″ x 1 3/8″) and trimmed off the corners, then added it to the top right of the card on dimensionals.
