This large lidded box measures 6″ x 6″ square and is 3″ deep, so is a perfect size for many gifts and presents.
The trick in making the lidded box is to score the lid so it fits beautifully over the base – read on and/or watch the video to learn how!
I’ve used a retired DSP for the lid, but any gold specialty DSP (or even a coloured pattern DSP) will work well for the lid and look wonderful with the gold embossed flowers and sentiment.
You will need:
- Real Red cardstock 12″ x 12″ (30 cm x 30cm)
- Specialty DSP 9″ x 9″ (23cm x 23cm)
- Irresistible Blooms stamp set and dies
- Basic White piece approx 2 1/2″ x 6″ (7cm x 15cm)
- Gold embossing powder
- Embossing buddy
- Versamamrk ink pad
- Heat gun
- Scoreboard or paper trimmer
Score the Real Red cardstock at 3″ (7.5cm) on all four sides using your Simply Scored scoreboard or your trimmer. Cut each corner to make flaps and do them all the same way – this gives some strength to all four box sides. Cut down the first vertical line to the horizontal line then take off small triangles at each side of each tab. It should look like this:
Fold and burnish all score lines then stick each tab inside the corresponding box side, making sure that each corner is exactly square. See the video if you are not sure.
To make the line the art is in the scoring! Using your Simply Scored scoreboard, place the 8″x8″ lid into the corner then pull it away from the edge by a fraction – about half a score width – from the side before scoring at 1 1/2″ (4cm). Repeat on all four sides, easing the lid away from the edge each time.
If you don’t have a scoreboard (why not – it is one of my favourite tools!) and are using your trimmer, bring your DSP a fraction under the 1 1/2″ mark (approx 7.45cm)before scoring.
Cut all four corners of the lid into tabs but this time reverse which side you cut the tabs, that is, if you cut the right-hand corner as the tab for the base, cut the lid tab in the same way but on the left-hand corner. Again, see the video if you are unsure. Fold and carefully burnish all score lines.
Stick each tab down to its corresponding lid side again being careful to line up the corners exactly. Then place the lid on the base and marvel at how well it fits!
To decorate the lid, use your embossing buddy over your Basic White card then stamp both Irresistible Bloom flowers in Versamark. Cover with gold embossing powder then use your heat gun to set the powder. Die cut them out using the corresponding dies.
On the remaining Basic White piece, stamp the sentiment in Versamark and emboss in gold. Punch or die-cut using the Labeled with Love punch or dies.
Add your sentiment and flowers to the box lid using dimensionals.
